Health Info  Nutrient Glossary  Omega 6 Fatty Acids

Like omega 3 fatty acid, omega 6 is a group of polyunsaturated essential fatty acids and it cannot be made in the body. Major dietary sources include nuts, sunflower seeds, canola oil, corn oil and sesame oil. Linoleic acid (LA), Gamma-Linolenic Acid (GLA) and Arachidonic Acid (AA) are well known members of the omega 6 fatty acids family.

Although excessive omega 6 fatty acids have pro-inflammatory property, they also have many health benefits.

Linoleic acid (LA) may assist in stabilizing blood lipid levels and produce cardio protective effects; Gamma-Linolenic Acid (GLA) can be metabolized by the body and secrete Prostaglandin E1 (PGE1), which may assist in stabilizing blood cholesterol levels, improve immunity, relieve sensitive symptoms and promote cardiovascular health. Arachidonic Acid (AA) is important for brain and nervous system development.
